Title: IX Western and Eastern European Conference on Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC).

Dates: June 28 – July 2, 2013. 

Venue: National Pedagogical M. Dragomanov University.

Organisors: Institute of Correctional Pedagogy and Psychology, All-Ukrainian NGO "Ukrainian Association of Special Pedagogues".

Registration starts on 1 November 2012. Registration closes on 31 May 2013.

Closing date for submitting publications - 30 April 2013.

Diagnostics of communication behavior and teaching alternative and augmentative communication children with poor skills of verbal communication

 

The workshop aims to develop such skills:

- to provide assessment of communication behavior development of children with poor verbal communication skills;

- to determine approximate content for teaching children with different levels of communication behavior;

- education of children using AAC methods.

The following topics will be discussed: approaches towards assessment of communication behavior of a child; types and advantages of different ААС tools; methodological requirement towards selecting ААС tools; planning for teaching ААС.

Scientific and methodological background for communication classes

 

Presentation of the program “Communication” for children with severe developmental disorders by the correctional and developmental education and rehabilitation center.

The following topics will be discussed: organising forms for teaching communication, introduction of communication tools, and graphic symbols as a mean for teaching basic communication skills; promotion of dialog interaction.

Educational workshop on Bliss symbols

 

 

Bliss symbolsare internationally recognized semantic language-based system, which can be used to replace any written language. Every symbol corresponds to a notion.

The workshop aims to familiarize the audience with the history of Bliss language, basic Bliss-symbols, rules of using Bliss symbols for communication purposes.

Participants will be involved in active interactions by combining symbols into sentences, will learn how to mark different grammar categories, build sentences.

Publications

Publications

Following the Conference the collection of the scientific articles, approved by the Highest Attestation Commission of Ukraine (HAC), will be published.

Deadline for submission of the articles to be published is 30 April 2013

 

The articles should meet the following requirements:

1.   The article should be submitted in *.doc format.

2.   Article size – 6–12 pages of printed text.

3.   Font type: Times New Roman; font size – 14; line spacing – 1,5, justified alignment, indent – 1,5 mm.

5.   Page setup – 2,0 cm on all sides.

6.   For authors from CIS countries: put univeral decimal classification code (UDC) in the upper left corner (in bold) without indent, left alignment; below in the center goes the article title in bold capital letters, below in the right corner put surname and initials of the author (in bold), academic title (no font selection), followed by the main text.

8.   After the title before the main text goes short summary in Ukrainian, Russian and English languages (without the word «summary», in italics, up to 150 words) and key words (beginning with «Key words:», in italics, up to 6-10 words). Authors from the foreign countries submit summaries in English language only.

9.   Relevant references are compulsory and should be made in square brackets, i.e. [2, с.15]. The list of the used literature goes after the main text (References) in accordance to HAC requirements and should not consist of more than 6 sources, if the article is of historical content – up to 12 sources.

Materials that do not meet the given requirements will not be published. In case of refusal manuscript copies will not be turned to the authors.

Аccommodation of the participants

The participants of the Conference may stay at the hostel of the National Pedagogical M. Dragomanov University at 8, Kosmichna Str., and at the city hotels (varying in price and location).

The organisational committee will book hostel and hotel rooms following the requests of the participants, submitted at the stage of registration. Upon completion of the registration participants will have to take care of the accommodation on their own.

Registration fee

REGISTRATION FEE

The registration fee for participation in the conference is 1500 UAH. The registration fee for participants from CIS and developing countries, as well as ААС users is 600 UAH.

Bank details will be sent to the participants in individual way.

A ticket for the Conference Gala dinner at the restaurant on Saturday, June 29, 2013 costs 350 UAH.

The registration fee entitles the participant for informational package and collection of the conference articles, coffee-breaks, excursion to the historical sites of the City of Kyiv.

Please, note that the registration fee does not include accommodation fares!

Participants from the foreign countries should note the term for the registration fee payments! Due to Ukrainian legislation and rules of tax accounting, registration fee payments will be accepted starting from 1 April 2013.
